Most of my life has been spent outdoors. I grew up in Rochester, NY, and was in the woods constantly, tracking deer, fishing, mountain biking, and hiking. In 1985, I was given a snowboard by a local skateboard shop owner. And 3 years later, I became a factory sponsored professional snowboarder.
I competed on the New England Cup and Western Mountain series pro tours until I was sidelined in 1992 with a major injury to both my knee and shoulder. After competing was over for me, I was involved for almost 10 years, in the custom car audio industry, and organized regionally sanctioned auto sound challenge events. During that time, I was also involved with working on 12 volt sales training and product reviews for industry magazines.
My 4-wheel drive experience started at a young age. I was always into big trucks, and used to collect magazines from the 80’s, when monster trucks like Big Foot, were actually still real trucks. When I was 11, my brother took me 4-wheeling in a 70’s Dodge power wagon, with 40” tires on it, and I was hooked! I proceeded to follow the 4-wheel drive path with various vehicles, mostly Nissans, to see what I could do to them, and where I could go. Since then, I have moved on to Jeeps (still got a Nissan though!).
I have recently have decided that off-pavement sports is the career path I would like to take, and have become a staff writer for both 4x4Review.com, and RocKrawler.com.
After all this time, I now live in Florida, married to the girl who has been my biggest fan and motivator. Switchback Designs has brought us even closer, and we now enjoy our off-road adventures around the country together.
